Civic Center is the home base for San Francisco’s biggest government and cultural institutions.
City Hall, the SF Public Library, the Asian Art Museum, and the Bill Graham Auditorium are just a few of the organizations that call Civic Center home. The sprawling plaza houses gorgeous tree-lined walking paths, cafe, and even a fog-inspired playground!
Tucked between City Hall, the main Library and the Asian Art Museum, this lush open space is the perfect central spot for a day in the city. There’s a food hut and often a food truck lineup too! – Aimee Callander
When San Francisco was selected to host the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition, the city established a design competition to choose the design of City Hall. and the plaza that lies in front of it.
