Did you know that this creek connects to the San Francisco Bay? –Sonia
This creek was the site of many projects in San Francisco’s history. During the gold rush, this creek was an industrial hub for gold-rushers. In the late 1870s, the creek area became known as “New Butchertown” when more than 100 slaughterhouses opened. The creek’s condition deteriorated, and it is now the site of restoration and conservation efforts to revitalize the area.

Islais Creek is included in the Blue Greenway project–an initiative which aims to create and connect 13 miles of San Francisco’s southeastern waterfront, from Oracle Park to Candlestick Point. The SF Parks Alliance is proud to be supporting the Blue Greenway project.
