Let’sPlaySF!

A Campaign for San Francisco Playgrounds

OUR STORY

Let’sPlaySF! is a partnership between the SF Recreation & Park Department and SF Parks Alliance. The Campaign supports the transformation of 13 of San Francisco’s most timeworn playgrounds into dynamic hubs for creativity and family life.

Public funds, combined with contributions from generous donors like you, will ensure that this initiative transforms all 13 playgrounds by the end of 2022.

20,000

Children

All children deserve a safe, imaginative place to play outside. The renovated Let’sPlaySF! playgrounds will change the lives of the 20,000 children who live within a 10 minute walk of these play- grounds – and thousands of others – by giving them modern, safe play spaces where their brains and bodies can thrive.

EQUITY

These playgrounds were selected by a citizen task force based on presence of unhealthy chemicals in playground wood, with priority given to playgrounds in low-income neighborhoods dense with children.

Learn more about the selection process through this State of Play Report and this Final Task Force Report.

“Play is how children develop executive function, cognitive abilities and gross motor skills. The opportunity for play at school is diminished so neighborhood playgrounds are increasingly important in helping children get exercise and develop these skills.”

Nooshin Razani
Pediatrician and Play Advocate
Director, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Center for Nature and Health

“I think the best thing that happens on a playground is that the neighbors get to know each other. The children are making friends and the parents are talking to each other. A new playground shows that people care and are willing to invest in a community and make it better.”

Community Advocate
