Our Work: Community Partners
Visitacion Valley Greenway (GOAL)
The Visitacion Valley Greenway Project was created to provide education to local school children, youth and the community about natural sciences, nutrition, and horticulture, environmental issues and advocacy.
Visitacion Valley Greenway (GOAL) is headquartered at the Community Garden of the beautiful and award winning Visitacion Valley Greenway. The Greenway is a result of over 25 years of collaborating with community members, the Recreation and Parks Department and the Trust for Public Land. In conjunction with the Recreation and Parks Department, GOAL maintains all but one of the six Greenway Gardens, with the help of some incredible volunteers.
GOAL promotes outdoor education and has nearly completed a Solar Kitchen at the Community Garden to facilitate outdoor classes in food preparation and various other subjects. More recently, GOAL raised funding and is leading the construction of the McLaren Park Native Plant Garden, which is located in Visitacion Valley and will be an outdoor education center, as well as a place for the public to enjoy nature. It is planned to showcase drought resistant native plants to attract wildlife and promote bio-diversity. Planting will be done by volunteers.
