The “Helping Hand” project will first prompt participants to consider 2-3 people in their lives that have given them a “helping hand” in their lives when needed. After this consideration participants will trace the outline of their hand 3-4 times (one of then hands is symbolic of themselves) on a piece of heavy weight paper from various direction and then fill in the shapes created by the intersecting lines with color. This will result in an abstract piece of art that is also a tribute to giving and receiving and the people that were originally considered in the beginning prompt.

Participants can also label hands with their chosen people’s names or initials.This project also includes the notion of what it means to be connected/entwined with our family, friends, and communities.
