Our Work: Projects

India Basin Waterfront Park

San Francisco’s newest waterfront park, India Basin Waterfront Park, is one of the most significant park projects in San Francisco history.

The new India Basin Waterfront Park will be the combination of the existing (renovated) India Basin Shoreline Park and the neighboring 900 Innes property. The result will be a grand 10-acre waterfront park, complete with amenities like a new playground and amphitheater. The project will transform this space into a 21st-century park with an emphasis on public access, social equity, resiliency, and restoration.

Timeline: To be completed summer 2026

Reclaiming Polluted Land

900 Innes, a waterfront property which borders the former India Basin Shoreline Park, was a deeply polluted site. That pollution was the legacy of past industrial activity, including shipbuilding, at the site. With the support of the Environmental Protection Agency, the site was fully remediated, meaning tons of sediment containing pollutants was removed from the water and shore to make it safe for human and animal life.

900 Innes Transformed

In October 2024, the first section of India Basin Waterfront Park opened to the public. The transformed space features a dock, food court, and boat building center, offering direct access to the water at India Basin for the first time.

The Project

The proposed plan combines the existing India Basin Shoreline Park area and 900 Innes property into one grand 10-acre waterfront park development that closes a critical gap in the San Francisco Bay Trail. It will be integrated parks, trails and open space system including two new public piers, a new public restroom, cookout terrace, playground, fitness station, two new basketball courts, and more! Equitable Development

The India Basin Waterfront Park Equitable Development Plan, is the culmination of nearly two years of a community-driven process to preserve the rich culture, identity, and pride within Bayview-Hunters Point, and to ensure this waterfront park will benefit current Bayview-Hunters Point residents. It provides a blueprint for delivering a park designed by and for the community while improving economic opportunity and environmental health for its residents.

  • This project is a partnership between the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, the Trust for Public Land, the San Francisco Parks Alliance, and the A. Philip Randolph Institute, in collaboration with the Bayview-Hunters Point community.
