Ledyard Alley

Our Work: Projects

Ledyard Alley

Ledyard Alley in Bayview connects Ledyard Street and Waterville Street. In partnership with SF Parks Alliance, Friends of Silver Terrace transformed the alleyway into a safe and inviting space for pedestrians complete with a new mural, plants, and entry signage.

Timeline: Completed fall 2024

The Vision

Ledyard Alley is an important route to the Silver Terrace athletic fields, playground, and recreation center, which currently houses the Kinderhaus daycare. The alley was once unwelcoming and often used for dumping trash, with help from a Community Challenge Grant, pro-bono design work, and in-kind donations through volunteer work, SF Parks Alliance and the Friends of Silver Terrace sought to instill community pride and create a culture of shared care for the space. The alleyway now features a new mural, raised planting areas, fencing, lighting, entry signage, and drought-tolerant plants providing year-round blooms for local pollinators

Community Input

The Ledyard Alley project is driven by community members who want to see the alley be made more welcoming. Locals participated in many ways, like sharing input in community meetings, participating in design sessions, and joining clean up days, a community paint day, and community planting days.

Tai Chi in the Park

In conjunction with upcoming improvements to Ledyard Alley, we hosted free tai chi classes at the neighboring Silver Terrace Athletic Fields every Thursday from February 8 through March 14, 2024. These classes were intended to engage the Silver Terrace community and celebrate the Lunar New Year!
