Summertime is around the corner, so we’re sharing a few of our favorite picnic spots throughout Golden Gate Park! Whether you’re a local or a newcomer to the city, this list will help you make the most of those rare but perfect sunny days in San Francisco.

Stow Lake

Stow Lake is a classic walking spot, but did you know that it’s also a great spot to stop and picnic? You can’t go wrong with the Pioneer Log Picnic Area, but if you’re searching for something a bit more secluded, we adore the smaller meadows along the south side of the lake!

Hellman Hollow

We can’t say enough about how much we love this spot! Tucked between the trees, this expansive lawn gets plenty of sunshine and shade alike, not to mention the sprawling meadow that’s perfect for lounging or a game of frisbee with friends.

George Washington Bicentennial Grove

With an abundance of lush trees and grass, you’d never guess that this spot was just off of busy Lincoln Way! This meadow gets ample amounts of sunshine and as an added pro, it can (usually) be counted on to have plenty of street parking.

SF Botanical Garden

For those of you who love Big Rec but don’t love the crowds, stopping by the SF Botanical Garden for your next picnic is a must! It’s free for all San Francisco residents (just don’t forget your ID!), relatively quiet, and there’s no shortage of meadows to choose from. One of our personal favorites? Confer Lawn!

Elk Glen Lake

Just across the street from the picturesque Elk Glen Lake sits a cozy picnic area that’s perfect for your next gathering! Grill up your favorite summertime snack and enjoy a meal at one of the picnic tables

Pro tip: Don’t forget to use the bathroom *before* you leave the house because the nearest restroom is over at Mothers Meadow!
