About

If you’re driving through San Francisco on 19th Avenue, don’t miss Lakeside Village on Ocean! Neighbors and local businesses have joined forces to make Lakeside Village safer, cleaner, and more attractive for residents, shoppers, and businesses, with the ultimate goal of attracting investment to empty commercial space.

An initial project is to create a community park from an under-utilized parking lot, located on the corner of Ocean Avenue and Junipero Serra Blvd. All of the family-friendly ideas currently in place, including outside tables and chairs for dining, are temporary so that they can easily be removed if demand increases for parking. Some of the improvements are permanent, such as landscaping the previously empty flowerbeds on the periphery of the parking lot, including trees, shrubs, and low-maintenance flowering ground cover.

After an online vote on the many names suggested by residents, the community space is now known as “Lakeside Landing.” Be sure to stop by and visit the Nature Exploration Area Shipwreck, Octopus Ground Mural and more!

Get Involved

Friends of Lakeside Village has hosted many community meetings. At these meetings, community members gather to introduce ideas and figure out how to best incorporate input from neighbors and businesses. Over the years, the group has implemented various improvements, including better lighting along the M-line tracks, tree trimming, and graffiti abatement. They regularly organize opportunities for volunteers to improve the neighborhood.

In 2020, the group was awarded District 7 participatory budgeting funds for new projects including Art for Ocean Avenue, Sidewalk Gardens, Speedbumps, and Junipero Serra Median Planting. Please get in touch if you have ideas for future projects or you would like to volunteer! Further information can be found on the group’s website, and you can follow them on Instagram @friendsoflakesidevillage.
